Just when you’re in a committed relationship along comes temptation.
We admit it! We’ve recently been enticed away from our modern jive addiction by a new love. One which is as sexy, as addictive and as much fun as modern jive, but also more!
West Coast Swing has tempted us – by its style, its sexy moves and its very cool music. Being Dance Babes it’s what we’re all about, so of course we had to find out more.
What is West Coast Swing?
With origins in American Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing is still a partnered social dance but with a relaxed kinda ‘laid back’ style. There’s a lot of talk of girls ‘dancing in the slot’, meaning you travel back and forth along an imaginary slot along the floor with the partners moving out of the way, - that’s the theory. But it’s also about elastic, fluid movements, including body rolls, whips, the ‘sugar push’, and intricate foot patterns. It’s described as ‘rails and tracks’, not very glamorous but looks fabulous when done with Dance Babe style!
The appeal for us is the freedom and independence that you have to improvise and be spontaneous within your slot. Plus we’re also interested in a dance which allows us to showcase our personal style and have a great time.
West Coast Swing is slow, sexy, smooth and sophisticated; you can see the attraction - can’t you?
Find a West Coast Swing class near you and let us know if you can resist the temptation.
As well as West Coast Swing have you noticed a little flirtation with the Tango creeping into Dance Babe? We’re doing our best to ignore it, but learning how to dance the Tango is beginning to entice us away from our modern jive and west coast swing dance affairs.
Clearly, it’s a world of Too Much Dancing and Too Little Time!
